Education is not only essential to increase knowledge, but it also raises the chances of getting a better paid job, thus enhancing the chances of improving socio-economic status and getting out of the poverty trap. Family members who can receive a better education not only improve their own quality of life, but also that of their families, in turn increasing the chances of their children receiving a better education.

Education in Batwa villages is in almost all cases carried out in inadequate facilities with a lack of qualified teachers, and where absenteeism of both children and teachers is a common practice. This leads to very low educational levels even for those children who can attend local schools. Our principle is that every child has the right to quality education, despite several challenges in achieving this goal. First and foremost, the availability of schools that can ensure a good level of education in accordance with the national standard and that are located within reach of the various villages. In our own small way, we have started to sponsor two children to education, Peter and Sheena, and with more long-term funding we could ensure education for many more children.
