Infectious disease reduction
Our objectives are to limit the incidence of communicable diseases through health education, distribution and use of hygiene stations, soap and cloth masks, and to support families during lock down through two distributions of maize meal, a staple of the local diet.
Rationale
Originally launched as first EVC project, immediately during the first Ugandan lock down due to Covid-19, and based on scientific studies showing a high presence of communicable and preventable diseases (due to lack of hygiene in general) in the area, we decided to distribute a hygiene station (jerry can with tap), cloth masks and soap to all families. In addition, we also included in the activities the distribution of maize meal to support them in difficult times related to the loss of sources of income during the lock down. The distribution of soap still continues monthly as part of the ‘seed bank’ project.
Impact
- All families received multiple health education sessions, as well as materials such as a hygienic handwashing station and washable cloth masks
- All families received a monthly ration of soap
- All families received maize meal (20kg) to get them through difficult lock down periods
